Philip James Vidas passed away on March 5th, 2011.
Son of Joseph and Mary Vidas, he was born on November 25th, 1922 in Clementson, MN.
Phil and his two sisters, Frances and Eva, were raised on the family farm. He attended
Border School and graduated from Indus High School. He served in the Army
during World War II, saw active duty in Japan and the Philippines, and then returned home to work on the family farm.
Phil met his wife Rose in Marble, MN and they married in 1952. They started their life together in Hibbing, MN and raised two daughters, Patti and Mary. Phil began his trade as a carpenter
and later started his own construction company on the Iron Range.
The family moved to San Diego, CA in 1956 and lived there for 16 years, where he continued in the construction business.
In 1971, Phil and family returned to Hibbing, MN where they resided for 6 years. Contemplating
“retirement,” Phil and Rose made the move to his birthplace near Baudette, MN. During this time Phil
continued to work as a Contractor and Carpenter. He enjoyed working on the many homes and
building projects in the community that now stand as a tribute to his craftsmanship.
Phil was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6582. He worked in support of the Lake of the Woods Food Shelf, as well as many other community projects that were near and dear to his heart. With a twinkle in his eye,
he delighted in sharing stories and laughter with family and friends. Phil enjoyed fishing on the Rainy River and hunting. Phil was a mentor to many and a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Vidas and his daughter, Patricia (Ralph) Dickey.
He is survived by sisters, Frances Green (Mark, Karen and Danielle) of Salem Oregon, and Eva Young (Autumn, William) of Chula Vista, CA, his wife Rose (Valen) Vidas, daughter Mary (Jane) Vidas, granddaughter Susan (Jerry) Jacobs, great grandchildren ,Amanda, Jessica and Jake, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, March 9th at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Baudette, MN, with Military honors by the Baudette Veteran Ceremonial Squad. Arrangements provided by Helgeson Funeral Home, Baudette. (www.helgesonfuneralhome.com.)
