Duane Herman Block, 84

Duane Herman Block, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at his home.  He was born July 20, 1926 in Baker, Minnesota to Earl and Aleda Possehl Block.
He served in the U.S. Army and upon his discharge in 1945, Duane worked for Homestake Gold Mining Co. in Lead, South Dakota.  Following that, he was employed by Western Oil and Fuel Co.  He retired from Minnesota Power in 1985.
He and his wife, Loretta moved to Arkansas and have resided here for 25 years.
He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, the V.F.W., Knights of Columbus and a leader in the Christian Family Movement.  Duane was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006 as the coach of the first Women’s Hockey Team from 1968-1969 in Eveleth, Minnesota.  He was also a past member of  the Elks.  He was also an accomplished sax player and performed in many dance bands in northern Minnesota. He also worked with youth in both baseball and hockey.
Duane is survived by his wife, Loretta of Bella Vista, Arkansas; five daughters, Cynthia McKenna (Kevin); Jo Rae Spieker (William); Susan Turk (Mark); Mary Carol Block; Nancy Wensman; son-in-law, Scott Wensman; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Lane, Bella Vista, Arkansas. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Arkansas.
