John Lofstrom, 57, died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN with Rev. Curtis Matz and Pastor Phil Rokke co-officiating. Burial will be held at Mamrelund Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 5:30 PM prayer service on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday at the church.
John Louis Lofstrom was born June 8, 1953 in Karlstad, MN the son of Louis and Eunice (Johnson) Lofstrom. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith atBethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN. John attended school in Strandquist. Following school he worked farming for the Kittleson Brothers. He also worked at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls for two days.
In 1973, John went to work for American Crystal in Drayton, ND. He worked at a knife station as a knife setter for 38 years and was currently working there. John was the longest employed campaign worker at American Crystal and he was a very dedicated worker. John enjoyed the friendships he had developed with many of his co-workers over the years.
John so looked forward to his summers off. He enjoyed spending time at the family farm where he had a passion for taking care of his sheep, goats, cats, dogs and one crazy goose. He always had a love for animals and was an avid collector of things. John’s other passions included attending auction sales, rummage sales, flea markets, playing cards and especially spending time with his nieces, nephews and family.
John loved to take the time to visit with family, friends and co-workers wherever he was. He could always be depended on to help anyone in need. He was a faithful caregiver for his mother until her death in 2009. John continued to give even after his death through organ donation.
John was a faithful member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist. John also volunteered at the Strandquist Food Shelf.
Survivors include his “little sister”, Dorothy (Mark Hultgren) Grandstrand of Strandquist, MN and his “little fella” brother, Lenny (DeAnn) Lofstrom of Strandquist, MN; niece, Nancy (John) Feldman of Pembina, ND; six nephews, Earl Grandstrand of Viking, MN, Dean (Patti) Grandstrand of St. Cloud, MN, Devin Lofstrom of Karlstad, MN, Dustin, Damian and Daltyn Lofstrom all of Strandquist, MN; two great nieces, Holly Feldman and Chelsie Grandstrand; four great nephews, Connor VanEmerik, Kegan, Dalton and Jacob Grandstrand; four aunts, Effie Johnson, Agnes Johnson, Lovie Johnson and Blanch Lofstrom; uncle, Edmund Kostrzewski; and numerous relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Eunice; and his sister, Barbara Kasprowicz.
