Melvin Minske, 101

Melvin Minske, 101, of Karlstad, Minnesota passed away at Life Care
Roseau Manor on Tuesday, April 5th, 2011.  Melvin August Minske was
born December 2, 1909 at Hitchcock, South Dakota, the son of Edward
and Laura (Roper) Minske.  At the age of seven his family bought land
near Kennedy, Minnesota and farmed there.  Melvin attended high
school in Crookston at the Northwest School of Agriculture,
graduating in 1926.  Melvin began farming near Kennedy. On November
22, 1936 he married Marvella Dagen at the parsonage in Halma,
Minnesota.  They farmed at Kennedy and Halma, raising small grains,
potatoes, dairy cattle and later beef cattle. In 1947 they moved to
Pelan, Township just east of Karlstad and continued to farm there.
Melvin and Marvella enjoyed going to dances, playing cards and
socializing.   Marvella passed away on September 27, 1985.  Melvin
farmed all his life, beginning with horses and transitioned through
to modern agriculture and equipment continuing to farm into his late
ninetys with the help of his sons and grandsons.   He became a
resident of Roseau Manor in October of 2010.  Melvin was a member of
First Lutheran Church in Karlstad.  
    Melvin is survived by a son, Bryce (Karen), Roseau; a
daughter-in-law, June Minske, Karlstad; a son-in-law, Marlyn Bjorge,
Grand Forks, ND; neighbor and friend, Betty Cummins, Karlstad;
grandchildren, Bryan (Carrie) Minske, Crookston, Rachel (Rich) Minor,
Somerset, WI,  Mark (Shannon), Inver Grove Heights, MN, Stuart
(Jill), East Grand Forks, MN, Angela (William) Stanislawski,
Greenbush, MN and Michele (Blake) Vandal, Warroad, MN;  great
grandchildren, Annika and Ashley Minor, Thomas and Sian Minske,
Paula, Nicholas (Rachel) and Joel Minske, Justin (Tessa), Shawn and
Sara Stanislawski, Dylan, Wyatt and Taylor Vandal; great great
grandchildren, Adrian Larsen, Haven Minske, Liam Zukowski, Ella
Minske and Rylann Stanislawski;  as well as nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, DaLonna Bjorge;
a son, Mylo; a brother, Clarence; and two sisters, Edna Litz and
Alice Thomas.  
    Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at 2:00
p.m. in First Lutheran Church, Karlstad. Interment will be in the
Karlstad City Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church for one
hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Rev. Gary Halverson,
presiding; Kirstin Olson, organist. Casket bearers will be Melvin’s
great grandchildren, Annika Minor, Ashley Minor, Thomas Minske, Sian
Minske, Paula Minske, Nicholas Minske, Joel Minske, Justin
Stanislawski, Shawn Stanislawski, Sara Stanislawski, Dylan Vandal,
Wyatt Vandal and Taylor Vandal.  The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock
is in charge of arrangements.
