Melford E. Nelson, 82, of Badger, MN, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 in LifeCare Greenbush Manor at Greenbush, MN.
Melford Elmer Nelson, the son of Nels & Bella (Ode) Nelson was born August 2, 1928 at Roseau, MN. He grew up on the family farm in Moose Township, Roseau County, rural Badger, MN. He attended the Roselund Dist. #38 country school near his home and was baptized and confirmed at Roselund Lutheran Church. Melford married Fern (Wahl) Miller on June 18, 1988 at Roselund. She died on January 25, 2011. Melford was an active member of Roselund Church his entire life and was a deacon for 30 years. He also served on the Moose Township Board for many years. He was a lifelong resident of Moose Township until moving into LifeCare Greenbush Manor in March, 2010.
Melford is survived by 3 nephews—Ordean, Merlin & Norrell Nelson and 1 niece—Carole Nelson Larson. 8 cousins—Alice Nelson Johnson, Jeanette Nelson Stocker, Barbara Nelson Baker, Newell Ode, Arlean Ode Olson, Ella Haugen Mork, Elmer & Floyd Haugen. 3 step-children—Norrene Dighans & Darrell (Marychris) Miller & Julie Dunlap. Several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother & sisters-in-law—Oscar & Geraldine Nelson and 4 cousins—Vernon, Marvin & Norma Ode & Jalmer Haugen.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, May 9 in Roselund Lutheran Church of rural Badger with Pastor Erling Huglen, officiating. Rhoda Huglen played the piano and Rhonda Rothenberger was the soloist. Pallbearers were Robert Holum, Joe Laurin, Chris Lunde, Loren Wellen, Oniel Foster, James Rinde & Curtis Hukee. A double interment service was held at Badger City Cemetery, for both Melford and for Fern who died in January. Arrangements were with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush.
