Jerome Stanley Koshenina, 75

Jerome Stanley Koshenina was born on August 9, 1935 in Holdingford, MN. to John and Christine (VanHeel) Koshenina.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended school in Upsala, MN.   Following school Jerry helped work on his family farm and later was drafted into the United States Army in 1958, serving in Germany, among other places and was later discharged from active duty in 1960.  Jerry served in the Reserves for an additional 4 years being discharged in 1964.  Jerry was united in marriage to Elinor Kukowski on May 5, 1962 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leo and the two made their home in Hopkins, MN. for a number of years.  Jerry and Elinor moved to the Strathcona area in 1975 and later moved to Greenbush where the two have since made their home.  Jerry worked a number of jobs in the area before going to work for Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad where he worked for 14 years before retiring in 1997.  Jerry and Elinor worked side by side as custodians of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush for many years and Jerry also worked at Rivers Edge Convenience Store.  Jerry passed away at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau on May 10, 2011 at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 1 day.
Jerry was a very active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush and also the Knights of Columbus where he served as a past Grand Knight.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, and volunteering many hours to church activities and functions such as the annual Knights of Columbus steak fry and organizing events at LifeCare Greenbush Manor.  Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife Elinor of Greenbush, daughter Janelle (Vernon) Schires of Greenbush, and son Jeff of Thief River Falls; 7 Grandchildren: Carly, Travis, and Courtney Schires of Greenbush and Linzy, Haley, Blake, and Morgan Koshenina of Thief River Falls; 4 brothers: Bob, Henry, John, and Paul Koshenina; 4 sisters: Marlene Trudeau, Eileen Jacoboski, Sharon McKusick, and Susie Marque, along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother Richard Koshenina; 2 sisters: Delores Sura and Mary Ann Lommel.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00AM, Monday, May 16, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Fr. Luis Buitron presiding.
Alice Blawat was the Organist for the Song Leader Peggy Swart.  Tony Gust was the Reader for the Mass and Gift Bearers were Jerome’s Granddaughter and Eucharistic Ministers were Marlene & AJ Pulczinski and Sheri Ziegelmeier.  Alter Servers were Alex Truscinski and Ethan & Ely Novacek.  Jerome’s Casket Bearers were Carol Letellier, Donald Koshenina, Donna Nelson, Travis Schires, Blake Koshenina, Stewart Kukowski, Kristi Koshenina, Kevin Sura, Pam Koshenina, and Kelly Koshenina while Honorary Bearers were Jerome’s Uncles, Tony and Ben Koshenina.
Visitation was held at the church at 7:00PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 and Rosary to follow led by the Knights of Columbus.  Visitation was also held one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment was held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery of Leo following services.
