Emil Joseph Mekash, 89

Emil Joseph Mekash passed away on May 15, 2011 at the LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 89.
Emil was born on June 15, 1921 in Greenbush, MN to Mary (Kulas) and Joseph Mekash.  He grew up and attended school in rural Greenbush.  He bravely served in the U.S. Army during WWII until his honorable discharge.
He and Anita (Comstock) were married.  He spent his working career as a “body man” in the auto body industry, working for Dorwart Motors in Roseau for over 30 years.
Emil was active in the community.  He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Roseau.  He was also a volunteer for the Roseau Fire Department, and ran the Bingo stand at the Roseau County Fair for many years.
He is survived by his children, Marilyn (Dan) Edman of Warren, MN, James Mekash of Yuma, AZ, Bonnie (Kraig) Lee of Wannaska, Robert (Anna) Mekash of Roseau, John (Bonnie) Mekash of Roseau, Janet (Mike) Hetteen of Roseau and Mark (Michelle) Mekash of Roseau; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; step-son, Tim (Muriel) Fevold of Roseau; brother, Ernest (Ruby) Mekash of Greenbush and sister, Marcella (Lowell) Mortrude of St. Cloud, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Michael, daughters, Joanne Marie and Mary Jo; and his wife, Anita.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 10 AM at First United Lutheran Church in Roseau.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at the Malung Cemetery.
