Marilyn Georgine Johnson, 79

Marilyn Georgine Johnson, the daughter of the late Torkel and Effie (Anderson) Thompson, was born on January 11, 1932, in rural Strandquist, Minnesota. At the age of 12, following the death of her father, she moved with her family to Karlstad where she attended school and grew to womanhood. On December 12, 1947, Marilyn was united in marriage to Mindolf Johnson at Karlstad. They made their home at Norfolk, VA., while “Mindy” served with the U.S. Navy and following his retirement in 1969, returned to Karlstad. While living in Karlstad, she worked at the former Arctic Cat Plant in Karlstad and was employed by Northwest Community Action. In September of 1974, Marilyn moved to Long Beach, CA., where she was employed as a resident crisis counselor at Cedar House, a child abuse treatment center, and because of her work, was awarded the key to the city. In 1989, she returned to Karlstad where she has since made her home, most recently at the Oakwood Homes Apartments. Marilyn passed away unexpectedly at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND., on Sat. morning, May 28, 2011, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 17 days.
