Harley Wollin, 86

Harley Wollin, 86, of Karlstad, Minnesota passed away at Karlstad
Healthcare Center on Friday, May 27th, 2011.  Harley Louis Wollin was
born April 11, 1925 on the family farm in Arveson Township of Kittson
County to Otto and Marie (Perleberg) Wollin.  He attended school in
Karlstad and was confirmed at in First Lutheran Church.  On July 15,
1950 he was united in marriage to Alvina Zarling at First Lutheran
Church in Karlstad.  They settled in Arveson Township and farmed
there.  In addition to having dairy cattle and farming on his own,
Harley worked on several area farms and always helped in the fall
with the local potato harvest.  He retired from dairy farming in 1979
and in 1981 they moved to Deerwood Township.  He retired from farming
in 1990.  Harley drove school bus in the Karlstad School District for
over 20 years.  Alvina passed away on September 17, 1999. He was a
member of First Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, church
board member and taught Sunday school.  
    Family members include four sons, Michael (Kathy), Hallock, MN,
Dwight (Camille), Paul (Twilla) and Scott, all of Karlstad;
daughters, Rebecca Wollin, Black Forest, CO and Pam Turner,
Flagstaff, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a brother,
Bob (Betty) Wollin, Greenbush, MN; four sisters, Elmira Brekke,
Greenbush, Carmen Curtis, Karlstad, Florence Peterson, White Bear
Lake, MN and Lorrayne Mortenson, Karlstad; as well as nieces and
nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alvina; a
great grandson; brothers, Clarence, George, Lawrence and Willis; a
sister, Mabel Sovde; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
in the First Lutheran Church at Karlstad.  Interment will be in the
Karlstad City Cemetery.  Rev. Gary Halverson, presiding; Kirstin
Olson, organist; Jan and Diedre Nordin, duet.  Honorary casket
bearers will be Harley’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Anthony Wollin, Adam Wollin, Andrew Wollin,
Steve Wollin, Greg Wollin and Michael Wollin. Visitation will be held
at the Austin Funeral Home in Hallock on Thursday evening from 6 to 8
p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday
for 2 hours prior to the service.
