Paul Dietrich Harms, the son of Dorothy (Trach) and Paul harms Sr. was born on July 8, 1925 at the Budd Hospital. He married Edna Roseen on June 27, 1946 and they had four children, Diann, Paulette, Karen, and JoAnn. Paul also considered an international exchange student from Germany, Fritz Sieber, as his adopted son.
Paul was raised on the farm, attended a one room grade school, and graduated from Roseau High School in 1943. He worked in a hardware store, grocery store, for Skel Gas Co. and owned a lumber business in Roseau called Builders Supply.
Paul was confirmed at the Pine Grove Lutheran Church in Pencer. The family then moved to Roseau, MN, and became members of the Messiah Lutheran Church where Paul was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, was secretary, and later the president of the church council. Following the flood in 2002 he and Edna moved to Badger, MN and became members of Our Redeemers Lutheran Church.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with his wife Edna, including camping throughout Minnesota to traveling to places such as Africa and Germany. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and the great outdoors. He never forgot a family member’s birthday. The cards sent, always arrived the day before the birthday and were signed to his grandchildren from “Grandpa Paul the Great.” He was a soft spoken man with a great big heart, who loved his family.
In the past several years Paul was a foster grandpa to all of the children at the Badger school. He volunteered helping children read. He read to them and became their friend and adopted grandpa. He very much enjoyed this mentorship to the kids. That mentorship fulfilled him.
