Lyda C. Erickson, age 93, of Badger, MN passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the LifeCare Greenbush Manor. Lyda was born in Pohlitz Township on July 18, 1917 to Henry “Hank” and Clara (Anderson) Helgeson. She grew up on the family farm and attended Duxby Country School.
Lyda was united in marriage to Hiram Erickson of Badger, MN and they farmed together for many years. Lyda was very blessed with many God given talents, some of which included her remarkable ability to play any musical instrument, her ability to sketch realistic wildlife, and design and build bird houses. Lyda was also an extremely active and hard working woman. She worked in North Dakota on the potato farms, on her farm in Badger, she worked for some time at Polaris Industries as well as hauling children to school by whatever means necessary. Lyda also served as a treasurer for Pohlitz Township for a number of years.
Lyda was very proud of her Norwegian heritage; she loved her life on the farm and appreciated the beauty of the world around her. She adored her best friend and faithful companion Jazzy.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, her dog Jazzy, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Lyda is survived by her daughters, Mavis (John) Besserud of Thief River Falls, MN and Kathy Oberg of RedWing, MN; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Lyda is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hiram; sisters, Mable, Lillian, Agnes, Vernie, Annie, Ella, Nellie, and Alice; and her brothers, Lloyd and Clarence; and son-in-law, John Besserud.
