Mabel Irene (Solien) Svitak passed away on August 9, 2011 at the LakeWood Care Center in Baudette at the age of 85.
Mabel was born on August 7, 1926 to Hannah (Paulseth) and Einar Solien at their home north of Roosevelt, MN. She attended country school through the 8th grade and later graduated with honors from Williams High School in 1944. She and Tony Svitak were married on June 5, 1945. Together they farmed north of Graceton, MN. In addition to raising their three children and her work on the farm, she worked at Morris Point Resort, the Williams School, the Moose Lodge, Trails End Lodge and most recently Ben Franklin.
Music was always an important part of Mabel’s life, something that her family has carried on. She also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, visiting and listening to her daughters sing. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and took pride in her family, home and flourishing gardens. Her grandchildren were a great joy and she loved spending time with them.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Dan) Black of Bradenton, FL and Carole (Don) Powell of Baudette, MN; daughter-in-law, Karen (Bruce) Turban of Birchdale, MN; sister, Edna Sutherland and Mae Sutherland; sister-in-law, Margie (Ernest) Solien; grandchildren, Karmen and Racheal, Karl, John; and great-grandchildren, Ruby, Devany and Cade; and special friend, Helmer Falk in which they shared a wonderful friendship.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony in 1991; brothers, Herbert and Ernest; sister, Nora Hanson; and son, Timothy in 1993.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 15th at 11 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Williams.
