Mary Lea Nelson, 68

Mary Lea Nelson, the daughter of Donna (Jones) and Wesley Swanquist was born on November 29, 1942 in Aurora, Illinois.  She attended school in Oswego, IL, graduating from high school in 1960.
On July 16, 1961, Mary married Paul Nelson. They lived in Oswego, Illinois where Mary worked as a secretary at a lumberyard as well as the Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora, and later as an aide at the hospital.
They moved to Williams, MN in 1977 and raised their three children there.  Mary worked at Marvin Windows in Warroad for some time, as an aide at the hospital in Baudette, and at the age of 48 Mary fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse.  She loved being a nurse and worked at the Lakewood Health Center in Baudette until retiring in 2009.  She spent numerous hours volunteering and was very involved in Relay for Life as a member and chairperson of the Lake of the Woods Chapter.   
Mary enjoyed gardening, flowers and vegetables, and she had a special gift with her African violets.  She was also active in the Art Guild and Quilting Guild.  She was especially proud of the quilts she made for her children and her grandchildren. She enjoyed her road trips to Bismarck with her granddaughters while visiting her daughter.
Mary Nelson passed away on Saturday, August 20 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo at the age of 68.
She is survived by her husband Paul of Roosevelt; children, Christine (Steve) Hall of Bismarck, ND, Steve (Sherri) Nelson of Salol, and Scott (Crystal) Nelson of Williams, MN; grandchildren, Brian, Aaron, and Kelsie Hall; Jaime, Jody, and Kane Nelson, Jackson Nelson, and Justin Hedlund; Samantha and Nickolas Nelson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, newborn daughter Sara, granddaughter Richelle Nelson, and brother Bill Swanquist.
A memorial service for Mary Nelson of Williams will be held on Friday, August 26, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church (north of Roosevelt) at 2:00 p.m.  A memorial visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at Mt. Carmel.
