Corinne “Corny” Gunnarson age 84
Corinne “Corny” Gunnarson age 84, of Kennedy, Minnesota passed away
early Friday morning, August 26th, 2011 at the Kittson Memorial
Healthcare Center in Hallock. Corny was born on the family farm near
Hallock, Minnesota on October 6, 1926 to Bennie and Evelyn Nelson.
She was a 1944 graduate of Kennedy High School. On October 27, 1946
she married Glen Gunnarson at the Red River Lutheran Church. They
settled in Davis Township of Kittson County and lived there until
1963 when they moved to Jupiter Township. The true joy of Corny’s
life was taking care of her family. She was an excellent cook,
especially noted for her homemade buns, dark bread and famous “Corny
beans”. She had a great sense of humor and was a very caring mother,
grandmother and great grandmother. Corinne was a member of Maria
Lutheran Church.
Corny is survived by her husband, Glen; daughters, Patricia
Anderson, Culver City, AZ and Pamela (Chris) Swenson, Kennedy; a son,
Michael (Cindy) Gunnarson, Hallock, MN; seven grandchildren, Robert
(Emily) Gunnarson, Marc (Tera) Gunnarson, Kirsten Gunnarson, Brooke
(Steve) Zabel, Brady Swenson, Sean Swenson and Ricky (Tara) Anderson;
six great grandchildren, Gus, Kaia, Evan, Olivia, Gavin and Elle;
brothers, Claire (Elsie) Nelson, Gunnison, CO, Paul (Mavis) Nelson,
Eloy, AZ, Bob (Mary) Nelson, Huxley, IA, Larry Nelson, Hallock and
Jim (Sandy) Nelson, Glenwood, MN; sisters, Bonnie Johnson, Kennedy,
Jeanette (Tilman) Spilde, Kennedy, Carol Drake, Minneapolis, MN,
Becky (Harlan) Neuberger, Wakefield, KS and Hazel (Floyd) Hanson,
Wadena, MN; sisters-in-law, Martha Nelson, Hallock and Carolyn
Nelson, Lake Park, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded
in death by her parents; brothers, Floyd and Wayne; an infant sister,
Susan; brothers-in-law, Alton Johnson and Ray Drake; and a
sister-in-law, Connie Nelson.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:00
a.m. in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment will be in the
Kennedy City Cemetery. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding; Patti
Swanson, organist; Charles and Patti Swanson, duet; Dwight Nelson, soloist
Casket bearers
will be Corinne’s grandchildren, Robert Gunnarson, Marc Gunnarson,
Kirsten Gunnarson, Brooke Zabel, Brady Swenson Sean Swenson and Ricky
Anderson. Visitation will be at the Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock
on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
