Elizabeth J. “Betty” Monley, 90, East Grand Forks, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 31, 2011 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND

Betty J. Connelly was born May 23, 1921, the daughter of George and Laura (Martel) Connelly in Crookston, MN. She attended Sacred Heart School, East Grand Forks and was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married James “Jim” Monley in Culver City, CA August 23, 1941. Betty was employed as a clerk at JC Penny’s in Grand Forks for many years and later Wayne Davis Jewelry. She retired after the 1997 flood at the age of 76. Jim preceded her in death on October 2, 1995.

Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home and at their cabin on Long Lake, MN. Betty loved a good game of cards, be it bridge, rummy or double solitaire. She also enjoyed gambling, only if she could find a partner to go with her to the casino and “drive”.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Kent) Hillery, Dubuque, IA, Mary Lou (Mark) Wavra, East Grand Forks, MN; sons, Timothy, Grand Forks, ND, Robert (Becky) Cass Lake, MN, Richard (Janeene), and Michael (Kitty) both of East Grand Forks, MN, Patrick (Teresa) Minot, ND and John (Jan) Grand Rapids, MN; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; sisters, Mary, Kathleen, and Ethel; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Mrs. Timothy) Monley.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful nurses and other staff of the Altru Palliative Care Unit and Hospice who took such excellent care of Mom and the entire family.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.

Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
