Selma (Sally) Maria Moorhead, 97 passed away August 23, 2011 at Lakewood Care Center where she resided for the last four months.
Sally was born March 22, 1914 to John and Anna Hagen, Bostic Creek pioneers who immigrated from Sweden and Norway. She was 10 years old when her father died leaving her mother with four children.
Sally attended school in Wheeler Township and later worked in CC Camps and for Rowell Fisheries until she ventured out west and married Curt Moorhead on March 22, 1941 in Bend Ore. Sally did tailor sewing for a time until they moved to a logging camp where her husband worked as a logger, drove trucks, and was a brakeman on the Shevlin Hixon Lumber Company train.
In 1954 Curt brought his family back to the area and they made their home north of Baudette on Senske Creek. Sally was employed at Rowell Lab for 20 years before retiring and assuming her duties as homemaker, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
We will remember her always for her love of family, dogs and the blueberry picking she did with family and friends. She was a great cook and enjoyed fishing and family picnics.
Sally was a member of Wabanica Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Roger) Sindelir and son, Curtis “Bud” (Judy) Moorhead; grandchildren, Brad, Mark, Bruce, Candyce, Tim, Jody, Allen and Wanda; step-grandchildren, Dawn, and Dallas; 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Curt; parents John and Anna; brothers, Carl and Norman; and one sister Florence.
