Edward G. Mooney “Buzz”, 60

Edward G. Mooney “Buzz”, 60, died on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN surrounded by his loving family following a three year battle with brain cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in Greenbush, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service and a 7:30 PM Rosary Service on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Wednesday at the church.
Edward Gary Mooney Jr. was born on May 9, 1951 the son of Edward David, Sr. and Irene (Bialke) Mooney. He was baptized at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leo, MN near Greenbush, MN. Ed attended school in Greenbush, MN graduating 1969. From 1970 until 1993 Ed was married to Lynnae Kjos and to this union two children were born, Lesa and Collin.
Following graduation he entered into service with the United States Navy in June of 1969. During his twenty years of active duty “EDventures”, Ed served as a Dental Technician. He was stationed at the Great Lakes as well as numerous other locations throughout the world including Taiwan, Spain, California, Virginia, and was also stationed in Philadelphia but lived in New Jersey. Ed retired and was Honorably Discharged on July 31, 1989 and he returned to Thief River Falls.
Ed started a computer business out of his house in Thief River Falls which he called “Computer Run.” In 1992 he added the Radio Shack franchise to his business. Through work, Ed met Kari Lokstad and the couple was married on November 1, 1996. Kari brought her daughter, Emily to this union.
When Ed was a child he had the nickname of “Buzz” which was given to him by his aunt, Florence because he was always busy buzzing around the house. This nickname stuck with him throughout the years. Ed was a very selfless person, was always considerate of others, had a great sense of humor, and had a beautiful mind. Ed put the fun in fun and he had a great personality and lived a full life. He was actively involved in his son Collin’s DJ business, (Backdraft). He lived and loved every day of his life and loved to spend time with family and friends at Maple Lake. Ed loved travel, work & play, everything he did he did with passion.
Ed was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Knights Of Columbus, Eagle’s Club, Lion’s Club, and American Legion Post in Thief River Falls. He supported many events and fundraisers in the community and was active in the Arts Council, local bull ride committee and was instrumental in reestablishing the local cancer support group.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kari; children, Lesa (Ken) Hagman, Collin (Stacie) Mooney and Emily Blue, all of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Roxanna, Ken Jr., Blade, Kyle, and Ciera; great-granddaughter, Reese; father, Edward D. (Etta) Mooney Sr. of Thief River Falls; siblings, Ronald (Colette) Mooney of Greenbush, Kenneth (Valerie) Mooney of Thief River Falls and his baby-sister, Terri (Dennis) Brazier of Greenbush; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Irene in 1996; and his grandparents.
