Lorrayne Theresa Mortensen, 84

Lorrayne Theresa Mortensen, the daughter of the late Otto and Marie (Perleberg) Wollin, was born on Jan. 9, 1927, on a farm near Donaldson, MN., the youngest of 12 children. The family later moved to a farm east of Karlstad where she grew to womanhood, graduating from Karlstad High School in 1945. Lorrayne was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On June 29, 1947, Lorrayne was united in marriage to Elmer K. Mortensen at Karlstad. The couple operated their grocery store and custom meat processing business for 23 years in Karlstad. After the couple sold their business, Lorrayne worked for Hanson’s Café in Karlstad and a succession of other owners. She also worked at the former Arctic garment factory in Karlstad, the Karlstad Hospital and the Karlstad nursing center. Elmer passed away April 20, 1979. Lorrayne enjoyed visiting with family, vacationing in the St. Cloud area in the Spring and Fall visiting with daughter Elaine and her boyfriend, Neil. She always enjoyed browsing in a nice grocery store. Her passions were baking and cooking. The stove never seemed to be cold. Lorrayne loved her long-time membership in First Lutheran Church of Karlstad and was involved in a variety of church activities. She moved to the Meadows Assisted Living facility in Karlstad and since Jan. of 2009, has resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center where she passed away on Wed. evening, Oct. 26, 2011, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 17 days.
She is survived by one son: John, of Karlstad; one daughter: Elaine (Neil Hanson) Mortensen, of St. Cloud, MN.; three sisters: Elmira Brekke, of Greenbush, MN., Carmen Curtis, of Karlstad, and Florence Peterson, of White Bear Lake, MN.; one brother: Bob (Betty) Wollin, of Greenbush; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Lorrayne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters: Mandeline and Mabel, and five brothers: Lawrence, Clarence, George, Willis and Harley.
