Genevieve Evodne Johnson, 85

Genevieve Evodne Johnson, the daughter of the late Nels and Edith (Peterson) Benson, was born on September 11, 1926, at home at Stephen, MN. She attended school and grew womanhood at Argyle, graduating from Argyle High School in 1944. She worked at Fargo, ND, for a time and was united in marriage to James Abrahamson. They made their home at Warren, Grand Forks and later, at Hallock where “Gen” was employed at the Brink, Sobolik, Severson, Malm & Albrecht Law Firm for many years. They also owned and operated the Hotel Hallock for many years. On November 29, 1974, “Gen” was united in marriage to Orval Johnson at Hallock. In 1978, they built a new house on their farm in Springbrook Township of Kittson County, west of Karlstad where they raised small grains and potatoes. “Gen” was a long-time member of the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle and active in church affairs. Orval passed away January 9, 2003, and she continued her home on the farm. For the past month, she has resided at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls where she passed away on Wednesday evening, November 2, 2011, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 21 days.
She is survived by one son: Jack (Darlene) Abrahamson, of Thief River Falls; four step-daughters: Peggy Phifer, of Palm Harbor, Florida, Corrine (Douglas) Lowenberg, Togo, Africa, Sherry (David) Lott, of Largo, Florida, and Janet (Scott) Stocker, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lambert (Lola) Benson, of Houston, Texas, and Doug (June) Benson, Grand Forks, ND; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
“Gen” was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sons: Paul and Tim, two brothers: Morris and Floyd, and one sister: Lois.
