Lyle G. Eissinger age 92 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Lyle G. Eissinger was born on November 26, 1918 in International Falls, MN the son of Carl and Julia (Neffew) Eissinger. He attended grade school there. In 1931 the family moved to Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from Central High School in the spring of 1937. He worked several years at various jobs as a delivery boy and stocker and managed a grocery store for a year before entering the military. Lyle served in the United States Army from 1943 thru October 1945. Most of his service was with the First Cavalry Division in the Southwest Pacific. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Admiralty Islands and was also involved in the invasions of Leyte and Luzon and the freeing of Manila. He then served in the Army of Occupation at Osaka and Tokyo. He married Aileen Thomasson on March 10, 1940. Lyle worked for Nash Brothers in Grand Forks and then Nash Finch out of Fargo, ND and Aberdeen, SD. He later worked for a food brokerage firm in Sioux City, IA for approximately 10 years before moving back to Grand Forks upon the death of his wife in 1972. He then worked for Lampert Building Center until retirement in 1981. Lyle married Francis M. (Benson) Coulter on May 17, 1988. Francis died in 2005.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Stephanie Hamm, San Diego, CA; son-in-law, Gerry Hamm, Fargo, ND, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Aileen and Francis; his daughter, Susan; sisters, Hatti Hanson, Devils Lake, ND, Margaret Helms, Roseville, MN and brother Russell Hayes, East Grand Forks, MN. He was a life member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of East Grand Forks, MN. In his retirement years he made a hobby of woodcrafts and enjoyed giving them away to family and friends.
