Melvin Eugene Mattson, 91

Melvin Eugene Mattson, aka Smiley, third son born to August and
Cecelia (Hanson) Mattson on August 26, 1920 in Jupiter Township
passed away peacefully at the Karlstad HealthCare Center on Saturday,
November 12, 2011. Melvin lived his entire life in the Lake Bronson
area.  Perhaps it was a simple life but we all know it was a happy
one as evidenced by his nickname…Smiley! Growing up on a farm he
gained valuable experiences that profited him later in life and as a
farm hand.  He was employed by the Lake Bronson State Park as a field
worker enjoying nature at its best.  Melvin worked in the Cities at a
plastic injection molding company where he made poker chips.  For his
dedicated service to the Lake Bronson Historical Society he received
a personalized jacket as a retirement gift.  In his spare time he
helped friends and neighbors, mowing lawns, shoveling snow, and other
chores.  Smiley was a friend to all. Status did not matter to him.
He was 100% stubborn Swede to the end.  He loved teasing his nieces
and enjoyed talking cars with his nephews or anyone that would
listen.  A loving brother to his sister, though he pulled some mighty
fine pranks on her.  And he worshipped his brothers relying on them
for honest answers, advice and opinions.  At home, Swedish was the
only language spoken.  He became the translator for many of us.
Always a smile and handshake to all who knew him.  May his smile live
on in each of us!
Proceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Ralph, Earl;
sister, Hazel Sagen; brother-in-law Francis Sagen; sisters-in-law,
