Kenneth Arnold Germundson, the son of the late Martin and Anne (Swenson) Germundson, was born on Oct. 10, 1917, in Nelson Park Township of Marshall Co., near Karlstad, MN. He was baptized at Hegland Lutheran Church and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. He attended the former Woodside School near his home and also the Karlstad School. Kenneth was inducted into the U.S. Army in May of 1942 and served with the 83rd Infantry Division Armored Medical Battalion in charge of an ambulance platoon and was discharged in Nov. of 1945. He worked for the Standard Oil Station and Bulk Oil at Karlstad from 1946 until 1975. On Oct. 4, 1947, Kenneth was united in marriage to Bernice Anderson at Hegland Lutheran Church and the couple resided in Karlstad. Following retirement from Standard Oil, he worked for Germundson Furniture in Karlstad. He served on the First Lutheran Church Council, Karlstad City Council, the Karlstad Hospital Board and was a member of the Karlstad Vol. Fire Dept. for many years and of the Karlstad American Legion Post #445. Foremost, he was a wonderful provider, husband, father and grandfather. Kenneth passed away in Karlstad on Thur. morning, Nov. 17, 2011, at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 7 days.
He is survived by one son: Sidney, of Karlstad; two daughters: Beryl, of Coeur d’ Alene, ID and Anita, of Karlstad; one granddaughter: Lynn, of Thief River Falls, MN; two sisters-in-law: Marion Mattson and Lilly Germundson, both of Karlstad; one brother-in-law: Allen (Marian) Anderson, of Belgrade, MN, in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 10, 2010, his parents, his daughter-in-law: Lexi, five sisters: Bertha Germundson, Agnes Clark, Nora Clark, Marguiret Britten and Sadie Krantz; and four brothers: Bert, Orville, George and Vernon.
