Patricia “Pat” Ann (Ryding) Lindgren was born on January 25, 1936, in Falun, Kansas. She was born the daughter of Robert and Ruby (Ahlstedt) Ryding. Pat was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith. She received her education in Salina, Kansas, and was a 1953 graduate of the Salina High School. Pat furthered her education at the North Park University in Chicago for two years and then the University of Minnesota for two years, earning a degree in teaching.

On March 9, 1967, Pat was united in marriage to John Lindgren at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. After their marriage, the couple resided in Wayzata for more than 30 years. Pat taught for the Minneapolis School District for 35 years, where she taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. When they retired they moved to their beautiful log home in Rainy River, Ontario, Canada, and wintered in Bokeelia, Florida.

Pat loved her churches. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis, First Lutheran Church in Baudette, and Pine Island Methodist Church in Florida. She was also a member of the Minneapolis Federations of Teachers for more than 50 years and Ladies of Elks (Doe).

Pat enjoyed her work of teaching most of all. Her years spent guiding and mentoring her students brought her much happiness and satisfaction. In her free time Pat enjoyed reading, gardening, playing piano, going out on the boat fishing always remembering to bring a book along. She would tour museums on her and John’s travels and always thrived on learning. Her dogs were the second love of her life and her closest companions.

When she needed assistance with her daily care, Pat became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Wayzata on November 22, 2011, and passed away there on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the age of 75 years. Blessed be her memory.

I believe this was the Patricia Ryding who was my beloved fourth grade teacher in Minneapolis, just across I-94 from Augsburg college. (Monroe School?) I thought she was kind and lovely, and she always made me feel that she cared about me. I particularly remember her sitting up on the desk reading from Beverly Cleary books in an accent I hadn’t heard before (“Sherff” Bob). She has always held a special place in my heart. I’m sure she made a difference in the lives of many children, and I’m happy to learn that she lived a long and full life.
