Edward Dallager, 79

Edward Dallager, 79, of Strathcona, MN, died on Friday, December 23 in the Emergency Room of LifeCare Medical Center at Roseau, MN.
      Edward Howard Dallager, the son of Eddie & Hilda (Brandvold) Dallager, was born January 17, 1932 in Greenbush, MN.  He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended Bethlehem Church, rural Greenbush.  He attended country school and worked on the family farm until hiring out to various other area farms.  He worked at a gas station until he entered the U.S. Army in 1953.  He served in Korea for 18 months while exchanging letters with Jelita Larson.  After his discharge, he went to St. Paul where he married Jelita on April 25, 1955.  They lived in St. Paul & Roseville, MN where their two children were born. He worked as a year-round roofer for 17 years.  He also worked at St. John’s Hospital in St. Paul and the Roseville School District. He worked evenings for many years with his brother’s cleaning service.  
      In 1973, the family moved to Greenbush and in 1978 they moved to rural Strathcona, MN.  Ed worked for the Greenbush Hospital and later for Waage Pole Building Construction.  In 1991, he became the caretaker of Oak Terrace Apartments and in 1994 he took over the caretaking duties at Elderbush Manor from his Dad, Eddie, who had been the caretaker there. Ed also kept busy as a handyman in the Greenbush area.
      Ed enjoyed snowmobiling, ATVs, restoring old Fords, moving and renovating buildings, collecting antiques, auction sales, and working at the Northland Threshing Bee and behind the scenes at the Community Jam Sessions.  Ed went on the Roseau County Centennial Wagon Train where he drove the lead wagon with Lucy Wiskow.
      Ed was a member of United Free Lutheran Church, the V.F.W., the Greenbush American Legion, Roseau Co. Trailblazers and was a Lifetime Member of the Northland Threshing  Bee.
      Ed is survived by his loving wife—Jelita.   Son—Ronald (Carol) Dallager of Two Harbors, MN.  Daughter—Annette (Dale) Wicklund of Greenbush.   Grandchildren—Isaac (Annette) Dallager, Isaiah (Dezi) Dallager, Amber (Adam) Roberts, Nels Wicklund, Emily Wicklund and Great-grandchildren—Ethan & Hunter Dallager.
      Brothers—James Dallager of Dresser, WI,  LeRoy (Marie) Dallager of Minneapolis, Harvey (JoAnne) Dallager of Greenbush & Gary (Judy) Dallager of White Bear Lake, MN.    Sister—Jeanette Mikkelson of Atchison, KS.  Aunt–Ardy Dallager of Park Rapids, MN and a special coffee friend—Alma Olson of Greenbush.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Loretta, brother-in-law—Marvin Mikkelson & sister-in-law—Kathryn Dallager.
      Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in United Free Lutheran Church of Greenbush, MN with Pastor LeRoy Petersen, officiating.  Rachel Green was the organist and vocal music was provided by Arlene Jenson and JoAnne Strandlund.  Readers were Pastor Tom Schintz, Ed’s brother-in-law and Nels Wicklund, Ed’s grandson. Pallbearers were Keith Langaas, Kevin & Scott Waage, Greg Hoyer, Laurel Majer & Noel Svegdahl.  Honorary Pallbeaers were Ed’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Northland Threshing Bee Members.  Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Strathcona with Military Honors provided by Moen-Zimek Post 88, American Legion of Greenbush. Taps was played by Nels Wicklund.  Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of funeral arrangements.
