Lynden Dale Langen, 70
Lynden Dale Langen, 70, longtime Kennedy area farmer and resident of
Castle Rock, Colorado passed away on Saturday evening, January 14th,
2012 in Grand Forks, North Dakota after a courageous battle with lung
Lynden was born August 17th, 1941 at Hallock, Minnesota to Odin and
Lillian (Clauson) Langen. He and his brother, Wayne, took over their
father’s farming operation when Odin was elected to the U.S. Congress
serving the 9th Congressional District. Lynden was still in high
school when he and Wayne started farming together. It was a
partnership that spanned 45 years.
Lynden graduated from Kennedy High School in 1959 and attended North
Dakota State University on an athletic scholarship for basketball and
baseball. On October 26, 1963 he married Dawn Bothum at the Mission
Covenant Church in Kennedy. In 2004 both Lynden and Wayne retired
and passed the farming operation over to their respective families.
Lynden and Dawn moved to Castle Rock, Colorado that same year.
Lynden was a member of Maria Lutheran Church and attended Faith
Lutheran Church in Castle Rock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dawn; a
daughter,Maridee Shogren, Grand Forks, ND; sons, Lynden Marc (Stacy)
Langen, Kennedy and Jonathan (Katie) Langen, Kennedy; six
grandchildren, Saree, Onalee, Lynden Chase, Cade, Eva and Nora;
brother, Wayne (Kathryn Rynning) Langen, Kennedy and sister, Lois
(Kenneth) Pagnac, Stephen; as well as nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Peter; and
Lynden was a well-respected farmer with a strong work ethic and was
known for his generosity, honesty and sense of humor. Lynden could
talk to anyone and enjoyed visiting friends, new or old, no matter
where he went. He was the “go-to” guy for advice, fixing anything
from farming equipment to life’s little problems. He will be greatly
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 19th, 2012
at2:00 p.m. in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment will be in
Red River Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kennedy. Visitation will be held
at the church on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer
service at 7:00 p.m. The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge
of arrangements. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding; Renee Ryden,
organist. Special music, Seed of Faith. Honorary casket bearers will
be Dave Lottsfeldt, Pastor Michael Knauff, Rich Brettingen, Mike
Green, Curtis Forfang and the Faith Lutheran Cancer Support Group.
