Emil F. Spina, 88

Emil F. Spina passed away at his home in Williams, MN on January 29, 2012 at the age of 88.
 
Emil was born on July 13, 1923 in the forest area of Williams, MN to Sophia (Jerabeck) and James Spina.  He moved with his family into Williams as a young boy and attended school there.  He served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge.  He and Genevieve (Strait) were married on October 25, 1949 in East Grand Forks, MN.  Emil worked as the Chief Deputy Sheriff for Lake of the Woods County for many years.  During that time, he farmed and logged.  He also was a rural mail carrier for many years.
 
Emil enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and guns.  He loved deer hunting and spending time in the woods.  He enjoyed working with his hands, watching sports, and will be remembered as a hard-worker who loved his family.
 
He is survived by his children, Susan (Rodney) Sorrels of Fayetteville, AR, Jack (Debra) Spina of Williams, and Janet Spina of Williams; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and a brother, John (Betty) Spina of Wannaska.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gen; son, Scott; and siblings, Catherine, James, and Jeanette.
 
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Williams.  Interment will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery.
