A Mass of Christian Burial for Lois Boomgaarden of Baudette will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Heart in Baudette with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette.
Lois Beverly Boomgaarden was born on August 4, 1934 in Williams, MN to Mae (McGuire) and Fabian LaValla. She attended school in Williams and graduated from Williams High School in 1952. She was the Homecoming Queen.
On April 29, 1953 Lois married Leon G. Boomgaarden. They moved to Minneapolis in 1956 and then to Bloomington where they resided for over 40 years. Lois worked at Montgomery Wards in the sales department.
Lois and Leon spent their summers in the Pitt community for a number of years, and in 2004 Lois moved here permanently. Leon passed away on September 4, 1993.
Lois loved her church, Sacred Heart Catholic in Baudette, and was a faithful, religious person. She fed the birds, gardened, grew tomatoes, canned pickles, and made jelly for her family. She also helped at the local food shelf. She enjoyed fishing in her younger years and also hunted for some time.
Lois passed away on Thursday at the LakeWood Health Center in Baudette at the age of 77.
She is survived by her children: Lester (Mary) Boomgaarden of Baudette, Lynn (Scott) Witry of Clover, SC, and Laurie (Skip) Clarin of Inver Grove Heights, MN; grandchildren: Nicholas Boomgaarden, Sarah Klaas (Travis), Kirsten, Danielle, and Jason Witry, Jeremy Clarin and Rachel Clarin (Jesse Kohlbeck); sisters Olive Dawley, Lorraine Albrecht, Shirlee Bannert, Gloria Baade, Barbara Heaton (Bob), Cecelia Norton (Richard); brothers: John LaValla (Kathy), Roger LaValla (Cindy), and Stephen LaValla (Kim).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Fabian LaValla, husband Leon B. Boomgaarden, sister Marie Palm, and brother David LaValla.
Memorials are preferred to the Lake of the Woods Food Shelf.
