Walter Johnson, 99

Walter Johnson, 99, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Lutheran
Sunset Home in Grafton on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Walter was born to
Peter and Lena (Peterson) Johnson in Eagle Point Township of Marshall
County on January 8, 1913.  He attended Eagle Point country school
and began farming 1936.  Walter married Evelyn M. Grundstrom November
30, 1939 at Teien Covenant Church.  They lived and farmed in Eagle
Point Township until 1991 when they moved into Drayton.  One of
Walter and Evelyn fondest memories were of a 30 day trip to Norway
and Sweden for their 50th Anniversary.   Evelyn passed away on July
30, 2005.  Walter was a longtime member of Teien Covenant Church and
served on the church board.  He also served on the Stephen, Minnesota
school board from 1964 to 1970. .  Walter has been a resident of
Lutheran Sunset Home for the past several years.  
    He is survived by a son, Lowell (Susan) Johnson; a daughter, Marilyn
(Gary) Hudgins, Dothan, AL; four grandchildren, Kristen (Anthony
Passarelli), Karyn, Tara and Ryan; and a sister-in-law, Margaret
Grundstrom, Minneapolis, MN.  Walter was preceded in death by his
parents; wife, Evelyn; and brothers and sisters.
     Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 28th, 2012 at
11:00 a.m. in the Teien Covenant Church, rural Drayton.  Interment
will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Leroy Aufenkamp, presiding;
Betty Dahl, organist and Karen Vold, soloist.  Casket bearers will be
Dallas Grundstrom, Lon Johnson, LaVern Grundstrom, Gary Hudgins, Ryan
Hudgins and Alden Johnson. Visitation will be at the Austin Funeral
Home in Drayton on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer
service at 7:00 p.m.
