Willard Petersen, 91

Willard Petersen, 91, of Kennedy, Minnesota passed away at Kittson
Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, Minnesota on Wednesday, May
9th, 2012.  Willard D. Petersen was born September 2, 1920 on the
Hemmingson homestead in Jupiter Township of Kittson County to Walter
and Mary (Hemmingson) Petersen. He attended school in Enok and  Lake
Bronson and was a 1938 graduate of the Northwest School of
Agriculture in Crookston, Minnesota.  On June 27, 1947 he was united
in marriage to Nomie L. Ekdahl in the Jupiter Mission Church.  In
1948 they moved to Lafayette, California and worked on a pear farm
until December of that year. They returned home to farm in Jupiter
Township and raise dairy cattle.  In the late 1950’s they sold the
dairy cattle and raised beef cattle until 1976.   Nomie passed away
in 2001.  Willard became a resident of Kittson Memorial Healthcare
Center in 2007.  He was a member on the Evangelical Mission Covenant
Church in Kennedy.  
    Family members include his children; Rebecca (Steve) Rude, Moorhead,
MN and Ron (Debbie) Petersen, Kennedy; three grandchildren, Rachel
Petersen, St. Paul, MN, Amy (Gustavo) Sagrado, Quito, Ecuador and Jon
(Lea) Rude, Fargo, ND; two great grandchildren, Jadyn and Mackenzie
Rude and nieces and nephews.  Willard was preceded in death by his
parents; wife, Nomie; and sister, Eleanor.
    Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00
a.m. in the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church at Kennedy.
Interment will be in the Jupiter Cemetery.  Visitation will be held
at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.  Rev. Steve
Grosz, presiding; Shannon Christenson, organist and Lyndon Johnson,
soloist.  Casket bearers will be all those in attendance.  The Austin
Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
