Edna Ruby Berg, the daughter of the late Andrew and Ruth (Swanson) Anderson, was born on Apr. 19, 1924, in Lincoln Township of Marshall Co.. She attended school and grew to womanhood there, and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1942. Edna was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church near her home. On Aug. 7, 1949, Edna was united in marriage to Norman Berg at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Deerwood Twp. of Kittson Co., near Karlstad. They operated “Berg’s Drive In” at Karlstad until 1962. Edna later sewed at home for Arctic Cat Garment Factory and also was employed at the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad for 25 years. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, was active in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed quilting and was especially adept at lefsa making. She was also known for her breakfast buffets for her family and for her pancakes. Norman passed away Apr. 17, 1976, and Edna continued her home in Karlstad. For the past month she has resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center and passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Thur. evening, May 17, 2012, at the age of 88 years and 28 days.
She is survived by two sons: Mark (Jan), and Matt (Barb), both of Karlstad; one daughter: Marlene (Mark) Peterson, of Middle River, MN.; six grandchildren: Jessica Berg, married to Josh Plencner, of Eugene, OR.; Nolan Berg, Fargo, ND; Amy (Jeff) McDonald, of Buffalo, MN; Lindsay (Chris) Hourscht, Delano, MN; Blake Peterson, of Thief River Falls, MN.; and Katelyn Peterson, of Middle River; four great-grandchildren: Ross, Ruby and Rex McDonald and Cash Hourscht; three sisters: Alice Vik, of Greenbush, MN; Marion (Boyd) Johnson, Middle River; and Fern Brevik, of Red Lake Falls, MN; four brothers: Alvin, of Buxton, ND; Roy (Emojean), of Karlstad; and Adolph and Francis (Marlys), both of Thief River Falls; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother: Elmer; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Anderson and Hazel Anderson; and two brothers-in-law: Robert Vik and Merle Brevik.
