Alice Lorraine Vik, the daughter of the late Andrew and Ruth (Swanson) Anderson, was born on June 28, 1926, in Lincoln Twp. of Marshall Co.. She attended school and grew to womanhood there, and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1944. Alice was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. On August 22, 1948, Alice was united in marriage to Robert Vik at the Zion Lutheran Church near her home. The couple resided in Halma for a year prior to moving to the Vik family farm in Deerwood Twp. near Halma. Alice was employed at the former Karlstad Memorial Hospital in housekeeping and laundry, worked for Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls and in Karlstad and was the local Avon Representative for several years. She also worked as a cook for senior meals at Lake Bronson and as a contract mail carrier. Alice’s hobbies were sewing and embroidery, mowing her lawn and the enjoyment of her family and grandchildren and attending their activities along with road trips with her sister Edna. She was a long-time member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church of Halma and active in church affairs, especially in quilting and the choir. Robert died September 1, 1984, and Alice continued her home on the farm until 7 months ago when she moved to the Greenbush LifeCare Center at Greenbush. She passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, on Mon., June 18, 2012, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 20 days.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl Sjodin, of Cambridge, MN.; Cynthia (Kent) Hanson, of Karlstad and Baudette, MN.; David R. Vik, Hendricks, MN., and Carol (Gary D.) Johnson, of Hallock, MN.; grandchildren: Charity (Aaron) Pankonin, Hudson, WI.; Vanessa (Dirk) Greven, Farmington, MN.; Brent V. Hanson, Anchorage, Ak; Afton (Chas) Farasyn, Loveland, CO.; Jadi (Matt) Staehling, St. Cloud, MN.; Joor Vik, Chanhassen, MN; Joshua Johnson, El Paso, TX.; and Eric and Steven Johnson, both of Grand Forks, ND; great-grandchildren: Auden and Amelie Pankonin, Tucker Waling, Jacob Staehling, and Kahleo, Liam and Silas Johnson; 2 sisters: Marion (Boyd) Johnson, Middle River and Fern Brevik, of Red Lake Falls, MN.; 4 brothers: Alvin, of Buxton, ND; Roy (Emojean), Karlstad; and Adolph and Francis (Marlys), both of Thief River Falls; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister: Edna Berg; one brother: Elmer; son-in-law: Doyle Sjodin; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Anderson and Hazel Anderson; and two brothers-in-law: Norman Berg and Merle Brevik.
