James Hughes, 60

Funeral services for James Hughes of Williams, MN will be held on Friday, June 29th at 11:00 AM at the Wabanica Lutheran Church in Baudette. There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 28th from 5-7 PM with a devotional service at 7:00 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette. Interment will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Williams, MN.

James Lester Hughes “Jim”, the son of Mildred (Ziefler) and Lester Hughes was born on August 29, 1951 in Cavalier, ND.  He was raised in Backoo, ND.

Jim served in the Army from 1969-1972, and was stationed in Baumholder, Germany.  He married Mary Ellen Enerson and they have one son together, James A. Hughes.

On May 13, 1979 Jim married JoAnne (Wass) in Walhala, ND.  They have two children together, Jeremy A. Hughes and Janette V. Wald.

Jim owned Jim’s Standard Gas Station in Cavalier, ND for some time.  He worked for 26 years at MDU/WBI (Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline Co).  One year was in Grafton, eleven years in Glendive, and for 14 years in Medina.  He was the chief operator of the Plant in Medina.  He also worked line patrol from Bismarck to Valley City, ND, and then North to Langdon and Cavalier, ND.

In 2006 Jim and JoAnne moved to Williams, MN.  Jim had his own business called Hughes Home Repair and Remodeling.  He also did stump grinding and had a sno-bear guide service through Sportsmans Lodge in the winter. Jim could fix or make anything.  He was a very handy man and enjoyed helping others.

Jim loved his family very much.  Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, and four wheeling.  He was an amazing man and will be missed deeply by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife JoAnne of Williams, daughter Janette V. (Nathan) Wald  of Grand Forks, ND; sons, James A. Hughes of Roseau, MN, and Jeremy A. Hughes (fiancé Alicia Reed) of Roseau, MN; two grandchildren, Jayla Wald and Jaxon Wald of Grand Forks, ND; mother, Mildred (Rene) Arnold; sisters, Susan (Clair) Longtin and Patricia (Richard) Letexier (previously Patricia Amundson); numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his father, Lester Hughes; nephews, Mark and Marty Longtin, and brother-in-law Gerald Amundson.
