Fauncie Erickson , 90

A funeral Service for Fauncie Erickson of Greenbush will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd, at the Oiland Free Lutheran Church in rural Greenbush at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held on Monday at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Fauncie was born on September 13, 1922 in Soler Township, north of Greenbush, MN.  He attended the Island Home School.  He was the youngest of ten children, with five brothers and four sisters.
Fauncie worked at home until his marriage to Irene Gonshorowski on March 16, 1944.  Shortly, thereafter, he left to serve overseas in the Armed Forces during WWII.  He served in the tenth army infantry during the last battle of the war at Okinawa.  He helped in the Signal Corps with the clean-up and rebuilding telephone lines.  That experience benefitted him in the 1960’s when he helped Wikstrom Telephone Company install telephone lines in our local area.  He also served as the head cook at Okinawa for a while.  He was honorably discharged on October 16, 1946.
Upon returning home from the war Fauncie purchased land in Soler Township.  The following year he worked in Montana for a couple of months during harvest time.  In 1956, he purchased and moved to a farm in Moose Township.  He farmed small grain, milked cows, and eventually raised beef cattle.  He liked farming because he was able to be his own boss.
Fauncie also worked several other jobs.  He helped at the DNR Wildlife Management Area, drove caterpillar building road #308 by Fox, was a township officer for 20 years, and cut pulp and Christmas Trees.  He really enjoyed working in the woods. He also helped farmers in the area when he had time.  He was a very good mechanic.
He moved to Greenbush, MN in May of 1989 where he resided until June 3, 2012.  His pride and joy in life were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was always willing to give to his family when anyone had a need.  He and Irene had 53 special years together.
Fauncie enjoyed playing Pinochle and other card games.  He enjoyed visiting with friends, and loved to hunt fish and trap.  He was a member of Oiland Free Lutheran Church in rural Greenbush.  He received his High School Diploma in the year 2000.
Fauncie Erickson passed away on June 29 at LifeCare Greenbush Manor.  He was 89 years old.
Fauncie is survived by his children: Dallas (Betty) of Greenbush, MN, Farrell (Anne) of Badger, MN, Holly (Jon) Foss of Greenbush, MN, Darcy (Dwight) Hasson of Greenbush, and Marcy Lane of Salol, MN; seventeen grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; and also several nieces, nephews, and friends.
