Roger Westerberg, 83

Roger Westerberg, 83, of Lancaster, Minnesota passed away at Kittson
Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Saturday, June 30, 2012.
Roger Winston Westerberg was born to George and Winnifred Westerberg
July 16, 1928, in Percy Township of Kittson County, Minnesota.  He
was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church at Lake Bronson,
Minnesota and graduated from Lake Bronson High School.  Roger went on
to attend the Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, North Dakota.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to
1953.  Roger returned home and farmed with his brother, Glen for many
years.  In 1954 he married Gerdis Westerberg.  They were blessed with
five sons, Gary, Ode, Lyndon, Owen and Leon. Roger and his sons,
Lyndon and Owen farmed together and did carpentry work in the area
for many years. Gerdis passed away in 1993.  Roger was a lifelong
member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on the church council.  He
was a member of the Lake Bronson Elevator Board, the Lancaster School
Board, NFO and the Lake Bronson-Halma America Legion.  On July 14,
1995 he married DeeAnn Minske at Zion Lutheran Church.  Three step
children joined this family, Randy, Kimberly and Brian.
    Roger is survived by his wife, DeeAnn; sons, Gary (Mary Jo),
Hibbing, MN, Lyndon (Denise), Lancaster and Owen (Shelly), Lake
Bronson; grandchildren, Bradley(Sarah), Scott, Joseph (Brandy), Vada,
Macy, and Judah; great grandchildren, Hayden and Tyler; sisters, Ruth
Eeg, Greenbush, Altha Carlson, Hallock and Phyllis (Jim) Sutherland,
Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Glen (Florence) Westerberg, Lancaster;
step children, Randy, Kimberly and Brian (Jenny) Dahl; step
grandchildren, Heath, Naomi and Elliauna; as well as nieces and
nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gerdis in
1993; sons, Ode (at birth) and Leon (August 31, 2002);  and a
brother, Gordon in WWII.
    Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 6th, 2012 at 11:00
a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Bronson.  Interment will be in
Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson.  Visitation will be held at the
church for one hour prior to the funeral service.      Military
honors will be accorded by the Lake Bronson-Halma American Legion
Honor Guard.  Pastors Kathy Levenhagen and Timothy Lundeen,
presiding; Louise McFarlan, soloist, Galen Nordin, soloist and Julie
Nordin, organist.  Casket bearers will be Scott Westerberg, Bradley
Westerberg, Joseph Westerberg, Daryl Klegstad, Garner Eeg and Donald
Burton; honorary casket bearers will be all those in attendance. The
Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
