George Topka, 79

George Topka, 79, of Alvarado, MN, passed away on Sunday morning, September 9, 2012 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND.
George Danny Topka was born on April 17, 1933 in Grafton, ND, the son of Dominick and Stephie (Feltman) Topka.  He was raised in Warsaw, ND and Argyle, MN area where he attended country school.  George served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953 – 1956.  After his discharge, he returned to his home area.  He married Elaine Toftner.  On June 10, 1967, George married Shirley Efterfield.  They made their home in Alvarado.  George worked for a short time as a farmer and a carpenter before going to work for Ryan Potato Company for 33 years.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  George enjoyed woodworking, making wood machinery replicas, snow blowing, mowing grass, lawn care and listening to music.
George was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and Alvarado American Legion Post #35.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Shirley; children, Dale (Vanessa) Topka of East Grand Forks, MN, Sharon (Marc) Selanikio of West Sayville, NY and Valerie (Nicholas) Poss of Alvarado, MN; stepsons, Keith (Jodi) Lawson of Holland, MI and James (Dona) Lawson of Gobles, MI; special family member, Lawrence Lawson; children by Elaine, Danny Topka of St. Paul, MN, Tommy Topka of Rochester, MN, Susan (Tim) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN and Cameron (Andrea) Topka of Branson, MO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rapheal (Geraldine) Topka of Argyle, MN and Arnold Topka of Alvarado, MN; sister, Cecilia Lubarski of Warren, MN; brother-in-law, Rodney Efterfield; sister-in-law, Laura Efterfield  and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death  by his parents; three brothers, LeRoy, Clarence and Clarion; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and three nephews.
FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:00 AM on Friday, September 14, 2012 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado, MN.
VISITATION: After 5:00 PM with a 6:30 PM prayer service on Thursday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado and one hour before services on Friday at the church.
INTERMENT: Oaklawn Cemetery, Alvarado, MN
