Gordon C. Wetterlund Sr., 89
Gordon C. Wetterlund Sr., 89, of Warren, MN passed away at North Valley Health Center in Warren, MN on Saturday October 6, 2012 with family at his side.
He was born on January 4th 1923 to Carl and Hilda (Nordin) Wetterlund in Springbrook Township of Kittson County. He attended school in Nelson Park Township of Marshall County until he was 10 years old. At that time the family moved to Jupiter Township in Kittson County where he attended the Grant school through the 8th grade. He also attended high school at Karlstad. He was inducted into the United States Army on Oct. 17th 1944 at Fort Snelling.
He married his beloved sweetheart Bernice M. Johnson on Feb. 15 1945. After the wedding he left with the 25th infantry – Lightning division for the Philippine Islands, and after the surrender he served in the occupation forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged Nov. 9th, 1946.
After he returned from the service, Gordon and Bernice purchased a farm east of Warren, MN in 1948; where he lived until his passing. There they raised small grain and had a dairy operation. He received multiple awards for his farming, ‘Honored Dairyman Award’ Red River Valley in 1977 and the ‘Master Farmer Award’ in 1993. He was a member of the Warren Assembly of God church for many years, along with a long time member of the American Legion.Gordon was a proud father to four sons
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Bernice of 67 years; brothers Rodney (Vernice) Wetterlund of Spring Lake Park MN and Richard (Carol) Wetterlund of Mission TX; sons Craig (Jan) Wetterlund of Buffalo WY, Jim (Cindy) Wetterlund of East Grand Forks MN, John (Mary) Wetterlund of Hackensack MN, Gordon Wetterlund Jr. of Warren MN; his grandchildren Penn Roullier, Chad Roullier, Christy Scott, Heather Wetterlund, Tara Spurling, Tiffany Schouten, April Wetterlund, and Candace Wetterlund; and his great grandchildren Lauren Roullier, Owen and Isaac Schouten, Landyn and Sawyer Spurling; special family member, Ryan Strandberg of Argyle MN;
Gordon was preceded in Death by his parents, Carl and Hilda Wetterlund and his grandson, Troy Wetterlund.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2PM Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Warren Assembly of God Church in Warren.
VISITATION: From 4PM to 7PM at DuBore Funeral Home on Tuesday in Warren and will continue for one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.
INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery in Warren, MN
