Mabel Trangsrud was born on March 18, 1912 in Pinecreek, MN to Oscar Johnson and Hilda (Torkelson). She married Melford Trangsrud on June 17, 1936. They lived on a farm 20 miles northwest of Roseau near the Canadian border raising livestock, chickens, and farming small grains.
Mabel loved to feed everyone who stopped by her home. Hospitality was one of her many gifts but her first love was music. She started playing piano at the age of 10, accompanied by her father on the violin and is known throughout the area for her music.
Mabel was a friend to everyone and she loved dancing, playing cards, and entertaining with food. But, most importantly to her was spending time with her family.
Mabel Trangsrud passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on October 8, 2012 at Roseau Life Care Manor. She was 100 years old.
She is survived by four children; Emery (JoAnn) Trangsrud of Embarrass, MN, Julian (Betty) Trangsrud of Northfield, MN, Elna (Bill) Bateman of St Cloud, MN, and Milo (Sara) Trangsrud of Roseau; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 8 great – great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Melford on January 7, 1974; son Marvin of Scobey MT; and siblings, Floyd, Ida, Selma, Helmer, Helen, Orville, Melvin and Clarence.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 15th at 11 am at the Free Lutheran Church in Roseau. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7pm with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Interment will be the Badger City Cemetery in Badger.
