Guy Flom, 96
Guy Flom, 96, of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Valley Eldercare Transitional Care Unit in Grand Forks, ND.
Guy Ervin Flom was born on May 6, 1916 in Richland County, MT, the son of Helmer and Jessie (Schow) Flom. Guy grew up in Grand Forks, ND and then in 1930 moved to East Grand Forks, MN where he worked for area farmers and also was employed with the Dakota Hotel as a Busboy. On January 28, 1939 he was united in marriage to Helen Schmisek in Grand Forks. In 1944 he joined the United States Army where he went overseas. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army he worked for Great Northern Railroad and then the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years before retiring in 1976. He also worked part time for a number of years at the EGF Potato Research Center.
Family members of Guy include his wife Helen of 73 years; children, Richard Flom of Homestead, FL, Eileen (Cameron) Saunders of Grand Rapids, MN, Diane Rothschild of Gordonville, TX, Elizabeth (Dale) Fontaine of Grand Forks, ND, Joel (Suzanne) Flom of East Grand Forks, MN, Kathleen “Kitty” (Michael) Monley of East Grand Forks, MN, David (Judy) Flom of Lakewood, CO and Brian (Cindy) Flom of Flower Mound, TX; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and 1 brother.
Guy is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Evelyn and Marie, 2 brothers Wilford and Clifford Flom, and sister in law Lenaire “Chick” Flom.
He was a member of the EGF American Legion, VFW, Retired Men’s Club and a lifetime member of the EGF Blue Line Club.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
Visitation: 5-7 PM with a 6:30 prayer service, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Dahl Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, MN and 1 hour before services at the church,
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 24, 2012at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
