E.Roger Sjovall, 75

E.Roger Sjoval of Minneapolis and Upper Mission Lake, MN. Passed into the arms of the Lord on 10-26-2012 at the N.C. Little Hospice in Edina MN at the age of 75, after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on Oct 12-1912.
Roger was born in Greenbush, MN to Einar and Norma Sjovall on September 10, 1937. Roger grew up in Karlstad, MN on the family farm where his concern for nature and love of wildlife began. After graduating from Karlstad High School in 1955, he continued to help his father with the family farm until 1959 when he joined the Air Force. While awaiting his first assignment he met and began a courtship with Veronica GrandPre, his sister Ilona’s roommate at a girl’s club in Minneapolis.
Stationed first in Biloxi, MS, in 1960 found him reassigned to Okinawa, Japan where he stayed for one and a half years. Returning to the US, and between assignments, he and Veronica were married on September 16, 1961. The next assignment was in St Johnsbury VT. New England was a beautiful place to begin married life.
In 1963, Roger and Veronica moved to Minneapolis, and he found employment with the Control Data Corporation where he continued to work for twenty five years. Retiring from Control Data, he began a second career in which he took much pleasure as a delivery driver for Bachman’s Floral Gift and Garden, where he continued working through this past September.
Whether at home, or while enjoying time at the lake, Roger was always making sure the birds and wildlife had a feast of seeds, nuts and ample water.
Survived by loving wife of 51 years, Veronica; cherished daughter, Valerie; sisters, Ilona Melgaard (Hans) and Ramona Sjovall; niece, April; nephews, Andrew and Austin; sister-in law, Monica GrandPre; nieces Kristin Reed and Holly Franzmeier.
Service was held on Tuesday, October 30th at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, with burial in the Lakewood cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis.
