Howard Battles, 84

 Howard  Battles was born to Arthur and Mary Battles on May 8,1928 at Clear River and they moved to Roosevelt when Howard was a year old.   He attended the Hexum school.        He worked as a farmhand in South Dakata for two years before being drafted into the Army  on Feb.10,1951 to Nov. 1952 and served on the front line in Korea for several months before getting his honorable discharge from the USAR on November 1956 on June 19,1954 he married Catherine Granley in South St.Paul.
       He moved to Rosemount, MN where he worked as a farmhand for about two years before getting a job at Armours  in St. Paul where he worked for 25 years before they closed their plant. He transferred to Armours in Portland ,Oregon where he worked for another   4 years.  After that he worked at Kalt for about ten years when he retired and became a janitor for the  Portland Rose City Church of the Nazarene for 12 years and received a Distinguished Service Award for his years of service to the Church.  Howard was very involved in his church and believed in God and Heaven. Howard did everything from working on cars, electrical work, building sheds and decks and loved working with his hands and helping people. Howard passed away on October 24, 2012 at Adventist Hospital in Portland , Oregon. He is survived by his wife Cathy, David,Debbie (Duane) and Scott all of St.Paul, MN and Pam (Rod) of Portland,Oregon.  10 grandchildren,11 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews .  His siblings are Laurence (Betty), Mary Friesner  both of Roosevelt , Daisy of International Falls, Aleta of Northome and David (Norma) of Oregon City Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents brothers Harvey and Thayer and a sister Evangeline.
    Howard also lost his oldest son Michael 4 days after he had passed away. Memorial services were held at Rose City Church on Oct. 29 in Portland Oregon. Howards children would like to hold a memorial in the spring in Minnesota.
