Duane G. Johnson, 71

Duane G. Johnson passed away on February 5, 2013, at the age of 71 in Long Beach, Ca., after a brief battle with cancer. He was born October 17, 1941, in Westport, Minn. and attended school in both Badger and Greenbush. At age 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corp and trained at Camp Pendleton, Ca. He settled in Long Beach, Ca. and lived there all his life, except for the years 2007 to 2012, when he lived in Ontario, Or. He returned to Long Beach, Ca. in June 2012.
Duane worked at Brethren Manor Lutheran Retirement Home in Long Beach as Maintenance Supervisor and retired there in in 2003. He spent many years at his favorite pastime, panning for gold at the Dutchman Mining Association’s gold mines. His other favorite hobbies were cooking, gardening and playing billiards with his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl R. Johnson of Greenbush and Irene (Johnson) Amundson of Fargo, stepfather Don Amundson, a great-nephew, Reece Swenson and a brother, Gary Lee Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, and extended family in the Long Beach area, sister’s Karolyn (Jack) Kvien of Roseau, Minn., Diann Jackson of McMinnville, Or., and one niece, five nephews and their families.
There will be no memorial service per his request.
