A Mass of Christian Burial for James Schuster of Baudette will be held on Saturday, February 9 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baudette at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Baudette on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
James Allen Schuster was born in Minnesota Lake, MN to Ed and Helen Schuster on September 20, 1933. The family later moved to a farm near Wells.  Jim married Marian Hansen of Alden in 1953 and lived on the family farm where they raised six children.  Jim also worked seasonally at a fertilizer plant, Custom Farm Services (CFS), in Wells.  Jim and his family moved to Granada, MN in 1968 so he could manage a new CFS fertilizer plant there.  Jim continued to live in Granada until he and Marian divorced.
A new chapter in Jim’s life began when he married Rosie Ballard in 1979.  They lived north of Baudette on the Rainy River with Jim’s new family that included seven children.  Jim worked as an agronomist for Cenex in Williams from 1979 until he retired.  He and Rosie purchased a farm near Williams where he was able to return to his roots as a farmer.  Jim enjoyed many years of hunting, golfing, and winter trips to Arizona.  For those who knew Jim, they learned to appreciate his own version of the English language.  You had to pay special attention to understand his unique names of roads, towns and everyday items.  If you visited with Jim after he retired, you would find him in his chair, watching sports on TV, cheering for whoever was playing the Vikings.   He kept up on the daily news and followed politics right up until he left this earth. Jim will be remembered for his common-sense advice, his phenomenal mathematical skills and his special skill of teasing his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim passed away on Tuesday at the Lakewood Health Center in Baudette.  He was 79 years old.
