Carmen Lola (Majer) Sather, 69
Carmen Lola (Majer) Sather was born February 27, 1943 to Clarence and Orla (Reierson) Majer in Thief River Falls, MN. She was baptized at Poplar Grove and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran in Greenbush. She grew up in the Poplar Grove area and attended school in Greenbush, graduating in 1961.
Carmen married Dean Sather, July 5, 1964 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush. They lived in North Dakota, where Dean worked on the missile sites. In 1966, they moved back to Minnesota. Carmen helped on the family farm. She also worked at a variety of jobs over the years, including Polaris, REM, Roseau County Nursing Service, Grammie’s Kitchen, and Marcie’s Kitchen. She babysat her grandchildren in their early years, and enjoyed it very much.
Carmen enjoyed reading and gardening. She was an avid nature and animal lover, caring for many dogs and cats over the years, and feeding all the neighborhood birds. She also enjoyed a variety of crafts, including ceramics, crocheting, drawing, painting, and sewing. She sewed bridal gowns for her daughter and daughter-in-law. She loved cooking and hosting all the family holiday celebrations, and Christmas was her favorite. Carmen passed away Tuesday, February 26th at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Carmen is survived by her mother, Orla Majer of Roseau, MN; children, Mitchell (Heidi) Sather of Badger, MN; and Heidi (Oscar) Whitchurch of Badger, MN; grandchildren, Sean (Sarah) Sather of Fargo, ND; Jesse (Brittany) Sather of Greenbush, MN; and Blake, Micaela and Wyatt Whitchurch of Badger, MN. She is also survived by her sister, Dana (Ron) Meyers of Anchorage, AK; sister-in-law, Caroline (Beito) Majer of Roseau, MN; brother-in-law, Alvin (Marcella) Sather of Greenbush, MN; sister-in-law, Eunice (Felix) Korczak of Greenbush, MN; brother-in-law, Clark (Sandra) Sather of Mayville, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; father, Clarence Majer; brother, Clair Majer; great-granddaughter, Raegan Sather; father-in-law, Alfred Sather; mother-in-law, Deborah Sather; and brother-in-law, Charles Crane.
Visitation and family services will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau, MN. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oiland Free Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush, with Pastor Gary Skramstad officiating. Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau is in charge of arrangements.
