James (Jack) Howard Nielsen, 70

James (Jack) Howard Nielsen died July 27, 2013 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee, Minnesota.

He was born June 15, 1943 in Grafton, North Dakota to Jack & Nellie (Marie) Nielsen.  Jack attended school in Baudette; graduating from Baudette High School in 1961.

Jack received a football scholarship to the U of M and later attended Bemidji State University.  Jack married June Hanson in Bemidji in 1963 and had 2 children, Scott Kraig and Kirsten Rae. 

Jack worked at Rowell Laboratories in Baudette and then moved to Bemidji where he worked at Potlatch Corporation.   After retiring from Potlatch, Jack moved back to Baudette, where he resided until his death.

Jack loved to golf in his spare time but he was well known in his high school and college years for his athletic ability. 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack & Nellie (Marie) Nielsen; his paternal grandparents, Jean & Howard Nielsen; his maternal grandparents, James & Kate Blakely and his Uncles, Norman Nielsen & Robert E. Nielsen.  Jack is survived by his sister Nance (Kelly) Anderson, his daughter Kirsten (Rick) Harvey, his son Scott (Ivy) Nielsen, his beloved grandchildren Walker, Becca and Jake, his Uncle Willard Blakely, his niece Marli Carlson, his nephew Casey (Amy) Anderson and life-long friend June Moberg and her husband Mark. 

 

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 9th at noon at First Congregational Church in Baudette.  Visitation will be ½ hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Elm Park Cemetery.
