Wilbert McFarlane, 84

Wilbert McFarlane, 84, of Greenbush, MN, died on Friday, August 9, 2013 in LifeCare Roseau Manor at Roseau, MN.
Wilbert John McFarlane, the son of Alex & Cora Bell (Lintott) McFarlane, was born June 26, 1929 at Badger, MN.  He grew up and attended school at Badger. He had worked at Seattle, Washington as a very young man.
Wilbert married Louise Stein on March 27, 1948 at Roseau, MN. They farmed south of Badger and he also worked at the Badger Seed House. In 1956 they moved into Badger and he continued to work at the Badger Seed House.  He also had worked in Iowa for Northrup King in 1964-65. In 1971 he opened McFarlane Seed, Inc. in Greenbush. McFarlane Seed processed all kinds of seed and shipped it around the world for many years. Wilbert retired in 2001.
Wilbert served the seed industry as a member of the Roseau County and Minnesota Crop Improvement Assn. and many other agricultural & seed  organizations.  He received the Premiere Seedsman Award from the Minnesota Crop Improvement Assn. in 1982.
He enjoyed woodworking and oil painting, playing Whist & Pinochle and shaking dice for coffee.  He spent winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at the Crazyhorse Campground for over 35 years. Willie also played guitar in a band in Arizona.
He is survived by a special friend—Margaret Bjork of Spokane, Washington.
Four sons—Nathan (Benette) of Greenbush, Rocky (Louise) of Lake Bronson, MN, Waldan (Karen) of Aitkin, MN and Sandy (Doreen) of Greenbush.
Six grandchildren—Trinity (Tim) Abrahamson, Adam McFarlane, Britt Dahl, September McFarlane, Evie (Brian) Lorenson and Amber (Trevor) Berg and 8 great-grandchildren.
One sister—Elsie Lislegard of Roseau, MN, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife—Louise on September 7, 1997,
Six sisters—Mae Littlejohn, Alice Brotherston, Cora Wiskow, Nellie Baillie, Edna Lund and Ruby Burnell; two brothers—Charlie “Buster” McFarlane and Neil McFarlane.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 12, at 2 PM in United Free Lutheran Church of Greenbush, with Pastor LeRoy Petersen officiating. Vocal music was provided by Galen Nordin and Rachel Green was the organist.
Casket Bearers were Nathan, Rocky, Waldan and Sandy McFarlane.
Burial was in Badger City Cemetery at Badger, MN.  Funeral Arrangements were with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush.
