A Graveside Service for Bethel Smith of Roseau will be held on Monday, August 19 at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Williams, MN at 11:00 a.m.
Bethel Lois Smith of Roseau was born on December 8, 1943 in Williams, MN to Beaulah (Niles) and Archie Friesner. She attended the Roosevelt Elementary School.
Her family moved to California in August of 1955 and she attended the Will Rogers Middle School, and High School in Lawndale, CA. She extended her education with classes to become a nurse’s assistant. Following that she worked many years in the nursing field.
Bethel married Walter Schubert on June 29, 1960. She later married Ronald Brewer on March 10, 1966. On August 20, 1983 she married her current husband Jabez Smith and they enjoyed nearly 30 years of marriage.
Bethel worked at Marvin Windows, the Roosevelt Café, and at the Night Hawk Bar and Grill. She was very active in the Roseau Eagles. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, reading and doing puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending quality time with her family.
Bethel Smith passed away on August 13 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. She was 69 years old.
She is survived by her husband Jabez; children Carolyn Skogstad (fiancé Boyd Olmstead) of Roseau, Ray (Stacy) Schubert of Honolulu, Hawaii, Renee (Randie) Johnson of Grand Forks, ND, and Teresa Glennen (fiancé Derek Bradford) of Roseau; step-children David (Dawn) Smith, Jerry (Leeann) Smith, Steven Smith, and Tammy (Dan) Wilmer; siblings: Donna Hagebeck, Neil Friesner (Margaret), Doris Story (Lester), Jessie Graves (Randy), Bernice Friesner, Margie Brewer (Ron), Rodney Friesner (Joy); sister-in-law Mary Friesner; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Bethel was preceded in death by her parents; infant siblings Reba, Steven, and Marvin; and brother Ramon Friesner.
