School District #2683 Proceedings (0911)
The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 2683 met in regular session on July 15, 2013 at 8:09 pm in the Library at the Greenbush/Middle River School in Greenbush, Minnesota.
Chairperson Shane Kilen called the meeting to order with board members Shane Kilen, Carrie Jo Howard, Joseph Melby, Jeff Nelson, Paul Robinson and Laurie Stromsodt in attendance. Not present, Shane Anderson. Also present were Supt. Tom Jerome, Principal Eldon Sparby, Nancy Olson, and Joy Sand.
A motion was made by Joe Melby, seconded by Jeff Nelson and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approve the agenda of the July 15, 2013 regular Board Meeting as presented.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Laurie Stromsodt and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approve the minutes of the preceding regular meeting of June 17, 2013.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Shane Kilen and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approve the minutes of the preceding special board meeting of July 9, 2013.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Paul Robinson, and UC that BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approve the payment of bills for the month:
Check numbers 28816 – 28878: $189,228.61
The Treasurer’s Report as prepared by Region One for the month of May was presented and reviewed.

• Greenbush/Middle River School District has received resignations from the following employees

• James Foss
• Greenbush/Middle River School District will seek candidate to fulfill the role of Media Specialist as well as provide support for the Community Education program.
• Greenbush/Middle River School District laptops have been delivered and Technology Coordinator Koebernick is preparing laptops for teacher distribution, which is scheduled to occur during teacher workshop.
• Roof repairs are ongoing at the Greenbush/Middle River High School with additional costs for insulation to amount to between $6,500.00 – $7,000.00.
• Smartboards have been installed in additional classrooms and work continues to ensure sound systems are working properly in individual classrooms.
• Roof repair at Greenbush/Middle River K-8 Elementary/Middle School to include the weight room and gymnasium area at a cost of approximately $25,000.00.
• Applications for Business Manager were reviewed and five candidates were selected for interview. Committee consisting of Board Members: Howard, Stromsodt and Robinson as well as Supt. Jerome interviewed five candidates for the position.

A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Laurie Stromsodt, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 approve the Health and Safety budget for the 2013-2015 fiscal years.
A motion was made by Jeff Nelson, seconded by Joe Melby, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 renew or affirm its membership in the following:
A. The Minnesota School Boards Association, with Carrie Jo Howard serving as legislative liaison
B. The National School Board Association
C. The Northwest Service Cooperative
D. The Minnesota Rural Education Association
E. The Northwest Interdistrict Council with Carrie Jo Howard serving as school board representative and Shane Anderson as alternate.
F. Moose Country Telecommunications with Shane Kilen serving as representative
G. BGMR Sports Pairing Board with Carrie Jo Howard, Laurie Stromsodt, Paul Robinson and Joe Melby serving as representatives
A motion was made by Laurie Stromsodt, seconded by Joe Melby, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education 2683 accept the coaching assignments for the 2013 – 2014 school year as recommended by Athletic Director Eldon Sparby. Shane Kilen abstained from voting.
A motion was made by Laurie Stromsodt, seconded by Joe Melby, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education d by Joe Melby, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 authorize the administration to accept the bid from Land O’Lakes/Dean Foods/US Grand Forks Grocery for milk for the 2013-2014 school year.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Paul Robinson, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 authorize the administration to accept the bid from Bimbo Bakeries, Inc./Sara Lee for bread products for the 2013-2014 school year.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Shane Kilen, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 approve the Truth in Taxation meeting for December 17th at 6:00 pm in Greenbush.
A motion was made by Joe Melby, seconded by Laurie Stromsodt, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 agrees to participate in the National School Lunch Program, the National Special Milk Program, and the Minnesota Kindergarten Milk Program, and accept responsibility for providing free and reduced price meals to eligible school children. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that District 2683 renew the National Scool Lunch Agreement set forth by the State Department of Education for the 2013-2014 school year.

A motion was made by Paul Robinson, seconded by Jeff Nelson, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 accept a letter of resignation from Ms. Lucinda Wiskow
A motion was made by Laurie Stromsodt, seconded by Jeff Nelson, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 accept a letter of resignation from Mr. James Foss.
A motion was made by Shane Kilen, seconded by Joe Melby, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 grant High School Diploma to Mr. Wayne Kilen.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Laurie Stromsodt, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education District 2683 approve Health and Safety Policy #807 as approved last year with no changes.

BOARD OF EDUCATION PROCEEDINGS
The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 2683 met in special session on July 22, 2013 at 7:00 am in the Library at the Greenbush/Middle River School in Greenbush, Minnesota.
Chairperson Shane Kilen called the meeting to order with board members Shane Kilen, Shane Anderson, Carrie Jo Howard, Joseph Melby, Paul Robinson and Laurie Stromsodt in attendance. Not present, Jeff Nelson. Also present Supt. Tom Jerome.
A motion was made by Paul Robinson, seconded by Laurie Stromsodt and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education 2683 approve the agenda of the July 22, 2013 Special Board Meeting as presented.
A motion was made by Carrie Jo Howard, seconded by Shane Kilen, and UC that, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approve the hiring of Amie Westberg as recommended by interview committee for the position of Greenbush/Middle River School District Business Manager.
