Jane Galstad, 66

Jane Galstad passed peacefully away at her home with her family beside her on September 11, 2013. Jane was born in Montrose, Scotland on November 28, 1946 to her parents, Jim and Jean Connell. Her formal schooling was done in Montrose, Scotland. In 1964, Jane immigrated to the United States and was proud to have become a U.S. citizen.
On May 3, 1976, Jane married, the love of her life, Irvin Galstad and together they raised six children.
Jane worked as a dental assistant, a lab technician at Pillsbury, a radio advertising executive and as office manager at Galstad Dental Clinic. Her hobbies were golfing and bowling. She was an avid bowler and once earned the Grand Forks city championship title. She enjoyed traveling, and spending time at the family’s various homes on Lake of the Woods. She liked to fish and ski.
Jane was passionate about the hockey program in East Grand Forks. She served as president of the East Grand Forks Blue LIne Club and was instrumental in building the VFW hockey arena. Although she lived most of her life in northern Minnesota, Jane never lost touch with her Scottish heritage, often traveling back to her homeland and always welcomed a steady stream of Scottish family and friends as visitors throughout the years. Jane had a larger-than-life personality that will not soon be forgotten.
Jane relished her time as wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren in particular were her special treasure. She always enjoyed watching their events, albeit a bit superstitious and never wanting to “bring on the bad luck.” She was a sassy and saucy Nana right up to the end (wink, wink, smooch, smooch). She was fiercely loyal. Over all her years, Jane expected and inspired excellence throughout her family. She took great pride in all her family’s accomplishments.
