Janice Melby Neumann, 74, Ada, MN, went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on August 4th, 1939, to Clarence and Glendora (Wilson) Melby, in Greenbush, MN. Janice graduated from Greenbush High School in 1957. She attended NDSU in Fargo, graduating in 1961 with a degree in Home Economics. In 1960 she was named NDSU Homecoming Queen. She taught Home Economics at Fertile High School from 1960-1963. Janice was united in marriage to Howard Neumann on October 29th, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ada, MN. Janice joined Howard in the dairy operation while raising four children. She enjoyed serving in her church, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. She loved her family and her husband, Howard of fifty years. Janice was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a phenomenal cook and loved designing and planting gardens. She had the opportunity to travel during the last ten years of her life to China, Alaska, Canada, Europe and other parts of the United States. Janice is survived by her husband Howard, Ada; daughter Heidi (Dan) Kneeland, Menomonie, WI; daughter Deb (Todd) DeBates, Oxbow, ND; son Peter, Hudson, WI; and son Paul, Ada, MN; seven grandchildren: Natalie, Mathew, Christopher, Michelle, Sammi, Micah, Rainer, and A.J; two great-grandchildren: Owen and Brody, one sister: Shirley (Udell) Lunde, Badger, MN; four brothers, Bob (Carol) Melby, Don (Jan) Melby both of Greenbush, MN, Darol (Marilyn) Melby, Bagley, MN, and Kurt (Kay) Melby, Burnsville, MN, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral was held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 27, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Ada.
Visitation was held Thursday 5-7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service all at the church.
Burial: St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ada.
