Elaine Thompson, 81

Elaine Thompson, 81, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN, with Pastor Phil Rokke officiating.  Burial  followed at Westaker Cemetery, rural Newfolden, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN.
Elaine Margaret (Skyberg) Thompson was born on January 12, 1932 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Clarence T. and Myrtle Josephine (Bakken) Skyberg.  She was baptized in Grand Forks at United Lutheran Church on December 5, 1932 by Pastor O.T. Ness.  
As a young girl Elaine moved with her parents, four sisters, and three brothers to Juneberry, MN where she attended grades 1 – 8 at Juneberry Country School.  Elaine had Mrs. Frislie as her teacher all eight years.  To get to school, Elaine rode in a heated horse drawn sleigh called a caboose.  She was confirmed at the Oiland Free Lutheran Church on June 6, 1948 by Pastor Joseph Nystuen.
Elaine worked at the Greenbush Hospital and the Vagle Nursing Home at Lake Bronson.
On November 22, 1951 Elaine was united in marriage to Curtis Thompson at the Oiland Free Lutheran Church Parsonage in Greenbush, MN, with Pastor Reinhard Pederson officiating.  Their attendants were Clarice Skyberg and Donald Thompson.  Later that year the bride and groom moved to Duluth.  Elaine worked in the camera department at Snyders Drug Store while Curtis worked at manufacturing iron ore equipment.  The following March Curtis was drafted into the service, then sent to Korea for 16 months.  They then returned to the farm north of Greenbush.  Since 1966 they resided in their home in Newfolden, MN, that Curtis built.
Some of Elaine’s hobbies included needle work of all kinds, crocheting, sewing dresses for the girls and Barbie clothes for their dolls, baking, gardening, and working with her flowers.  The love she had for her grandchildren was evident in all she did for them.
Elaine was active in Westaker Church, teaching Sunday School, and the Ladies Aid.  She served on the Trumpet of Truth Radio Board since its beginning.    
Elaine resided at the Thief River Care Center for just over two years before her death.   
Survivors include her loving husband, Curtis of Newfolden, MN; children, Robbin (Roger) Mathsen of Alvarado, MN, Mark (Barb) Thompson of Moorhead, MN, Roger (special friend, Denise Counter) Thompson of Thief River Falls, MN, Lisa (Sam) Sparhawk of Shevlin, MN; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Skyberg of Moorhead, MN; sisters, Adeline (Floyd) Nelson of Newfolden, MN, and Rose (Marvin) Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Teddy; great-grandson, Treyton; sisters, Evelyn, Clarice, and Shirley; brothers, Conrad and Harvey.
